Timeline view
The timeline is the primary view for team schedules. It shows member events and group events across a date range, color-coded by category.
Reading the timeline
Section titled “Reading the timeline”Each row represents a member. Events appear as colored blocks spanning their date range. The block color comes from the event’s category.
- Full-width blocks — multi-day events
- Stacked blocks — overlapping events on the same day (higher zIndex on top; capacity uses minimum modifier)
- Empty rows — no events in the visible range
Stacking order
Section titled “Stacking order”When events overlap on the same day, they stack visually. Higher-priority categories appear on top:
Unplanned Time Off → Planned Time Off → Ops → Offsite → Holidays
Stacking is visual. Capacity always uses the minimum modifier regardless of which block you see on top.
Category legend
Section titled “Category legend”The legend below the timeline maps colors to categories. Click a category to filter the timeline to events in that category only.
Default category colors:
| Category | Typical color role |
|---|---|
| Time Off | Distinct from ops/training |
| Holidays | Group events, often muted |
| Training | Mid-saturation |
| Ops | High-visibility for on-call |
| Offsite | Separate from time off |
Exact colors depend on your workspace configuration.
Navigation and zoom
Section titled “Navigation and zoom”- Scroll horizontally — move through time
- Zoom — adjust the visible date range (week, month, quarter views)
- Today marker — highlights the current date
Use zoom to switch between detail (this week) and planning (next quarter) views.
Filtering
Section titled “Filtering”Filter the timeline by:
- Team — show only members of the selected team
- Member — focus on one person
- Category — via the legend
Filters combine — selecting a team and a category shows only matching events for that team’s members.
Screenshots
Section titled “Screenshots”Screenshots from the Demo dataset workspace will be added here once the prod demo workspace is seeded (TPX-747). The timeline is the most screenshot-heavy page in the docs.
What to read next
Section titled “What to read next”- Creating & managing events — log events that appear here
- Modifiers & precedence — why overlapping blocks don’t always match capacity
- Reports — aggregate timeline data into charts
